Find the Right Desk for How You Work

Your desk shapes your working day. Too small and you feel cramped. Too big and it swamps the room. These tips will help you choose well.

Types of Desk

  • Writing desks – compact and elegant, ideal for laptops and bedrooms.
  • Computer desks – deeper tops for monitors, often with drawers.
  • Corner desks – make use of awkward corners and give lots of surface space.

Size Guide

For a laptop, 90 to 100cm wide is usually enough. One monitor needs around 110 to 120cm. Two monitors need 140cm or more. A depth of 55 to 70cm keeps screens at a comfortable distance.

Set Up for Comfort

Your screen's top edge should be at or just below eye level. Keep your elbows at about 90 degrees when typing. Feet should rest flat on the floor. Good posture reduces neck and back strain on long days.

Storage at Your Desk

Drawers keep pens, chargers and notebooks out of sight. Cable holes help hide leads. Add a bookcase beside your desk for files and books. A cupboard hides the printer.

Our Desk Ranges

Oakham offers single and corner computer desks in rustic oak. Newton brings natural oak and clean Scandi lines. Collington and Eastwood mix reclaimed wood with black metal for an industrial look.

Light It Well

Place your desk side-on to a window to cut screen glare. Add a desk lamp for darker afternoons.

Desks: Frequently Asked Questions

What size desk do I need for two monitors?

Look for a desk at least 140cm wide and 60 to 70cm deep to fit two screens comfortably.

Are corner desks good for small rooms?

Yes. They turn an unused corner into a workspace and give more surface area than a straight desk of the same width.

Where should I place my desk?

Side-on to a window is ideal. You get daylight without glare on your screen.

Do your desks need assembling?

Most desks need some assembly. Choose White Glove delivery, from £50, and we'll put it together for you.
