Designing a kitchen that complements the character and history of a home is a truly rewarding experience. Recently, we had the opportunity to create a charming, rustic kitchen for a customer who wanted to celebrate the age and area of her house. This solid wood, hand-painted kitchen in a beautiful green blue hue brings together functionality and rustic elegance. Here’s a closer look at how we achieved this transformation.

The Vision

Our customer desired a kitchen that embodied the rustic charm and timeless appeal appropriate for her historic home. She chose a green blue color for the cabinetry, which adds a touch of countryside elegance. The goal was to create a space that felt warm and inviting, with practical features that catered to her everyday needs. Key elements included a corner larder with ample shelving for storage and a preference for drawers over doors to ensure easy access to kitchen essentials.

The Corner Larder

One of the standout features of this kitchen is the corner larder. Designed to maximize storage space, the larder includes multiple shelves, providing ample room for pantry items and kitchen essentials. The corner placement makes efficient use of space, allowing for better organization and easy access to stored items.

The larder’s design, with its rustic wood finish and practical shelving, fits seamlessly into the overall aesthetic of the kitchen. It not only adds functionality but also enhances the kitchen’s rustic charm.

Prioritizing Drawers for Accessibility

Understanding the customer’s need for convenience, we incorporated more drawers than doors into the kitchen’s design. Drawers offer easier access to items, especially those stored at lower levels. Deep drawers were designed to hold pots, pans, and larger kitchenware, while smaller drawers were ideal for utensils and smaller items.

The use of drawers over doors significantly improves the kitchen's functionality, making it easier for the customer to reach and organize her items. The drawers were crafted with dovetail joints, ensuring strength and durability, and fitted with smooth glides for easy operation.

Bringing It All Together

The combination of green blue hand-painted cabinets, the practical corner larder, and the accessibility-focused drawer design created a kitchen that is both beautiful and functional. The rustic style of the cabinets and the thoughtful design details ensured that the kitchen not only met the customer’s needs but also enhanced the historic charm of her home.
