The Hampshire Farmhouse Kitchen

Set within a charming countryside property in Hampshire, this kitchen was designed to capture the warmth and character of traditional farmhouse living while offering all the practicality a busy family home demands. The brief was simple in spirit but rich in detail — create a kitchen that feels rooted, welcoming, and built to last, drawing on the rural setting just beyond its windows.

Handpainted cabinetry forms the heart of the design, finished in an earthy, muted tone that echoes the surrounding landscape. Traditional panelled doors and generous storage give the kitchen a timeless, unfussy quality, while a mix of open shelving and closed cupboards strikes the balance between display and practicality. Solid wood worktops bring natural texture and warmth throughout, ageing gracefully in true farmhouse fashion.

At the centre of the room, a substantial island provides both additional workspace and a natural hub for family life — equally suited to bread-making mornings and relaxed evening gatherings. A traditional Belfast sink sits beneath the window, paired with characterful ironmongery that nods to the property's rural heritage, while an aga-style range cooker anchors the far wall as both a practical workhorse and a visual focal point.

Flagstone-effect flooring underfoot adds to the sense of permanence and warmth, while carefully chosen lighting — from pendant fittings above the island to softer accent lighting elsewhere — ensures the room works as hard in the evening as it does during a busy family breakfast. Every element, from the cabinetry finish to the choice of hardware, was selected to create a kitchen that feels authentically farmhouse: practical, characterful, and built around the rhythms of everyday life.
